Shooting once again in London for Big Talk Productions, a BBC3 teaser pilot.

Booming for me is Jamie Hale, a fellow Bristol resident, this 2 day shoot is with the Director and DOP team from “Enterprise” Ella Jones and Susie Salavati. I was asked to step up from Booming their last show to Production Sound Mix this TV film.

Pretty standard one camera drama shoot, interesting thing about this shoot was a live podcast mic used on screen that i sourced from another sound mixer to add another element into the scene between the 3 protagonists. Sennheiser MKH8050 and SQN used to feed back to my AD149 desk.

Having worked on three previous seasons of Red Dwarf, I along with Sound Supervisor Keith Nixon were asked to return to film a one off special for UKTV at Pinewood, London.

The challenges of this comedy TV show are an interesting one. A mechanical robot whose costume has been estabilshed since the 80s and continue’s to sound like squeky rubber, multiple Camera shoot sequences in front of a live studio auideance.

Our department had to come up with a secret in ear monitoring device to have lines delivered whilst shooting live. This required another couple of radio mic frequencies to be installed in an already saturated RF space at Pinewood, London.

I was asked by Chris Durfy CAS to assistant him in recording his 2nd Unit on this production.

This show was shot with all natural light, no big drama lighting set ups which meant that things happened fast and you had to be ready to roll, as i was doing 2nd unit i thought it was best to go into “handbag”mode, Instead of having the recorder placed on the sound trolly, this enabled me to quickly place the recorder inside vehicles and pick it back up again for quick short dialouge scenes in Bristol city centre.

I Sound recorded a couple of scenes in the centre of Salisbury to help tie in the city into the scenes that were primarily shot in Bristol as the producers thought it best not to recreate the mass pandimonium the event actually took.

The opening of the show required a recording of the morning prayer inside Bristol Cathedral which i was able to capture with my pair of Schoeps CMC641 expertly handled by 1AS Dewi Jones.
